Energy Savers Week 2024

15^th January 2024 marked the beginning of Energy Savers Week, which is a time to raise awareness about saving energy to reduce expenses and emissions. At Action on Energy, we focused on sharing information about saving energy in the home. To do this, we shared several posts on social media about the new energy price cap (which came into effect on 1^st January 2024), top tips on saving energy from Citizens Advice and the Energy Saving Trust, and what support you may be able to receive from Action on Energy, including grant funded home energy efficiency measures and low carbon heating. During this time, we also worked with two Action on Energy partners, South Cambridgeshire District Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council to develop press releases about the new energy price cap and what home energy support is available to residents. This year’s Energy Savers Week was particularly important because the new Ofgem energy price cap which went into effect at the beginning of the year is set at £1,928 for a typical household who use gas and electricity and pay by Direct Debit. This was up from £1,834 during the period of 1^st October – 31^st December 2023, marking an increase of £94. You can read more about the energy price cap here. A new price cap is introduced every three months. The next price cap is set to take effect on 1^st April 2024 will be announced by 23^rd February 2024.

If you are concerned about the new cost of your energy bills, you can look at our funding page to see if you may be eligible for current funding such as the Home Energy Upgrade Grant 2 (HUG 2) to increase home energy efficiency, and then fill out our Grant Funding Application Form. You can also access wider support or information on installing retrofit measures. Increasing the energy efficiency of your home by installing retrofit measures such as insulation and clean heat measures should reduce the cost of your energy bills, reduce your carbon emissions, and make it easier to keep your home a comfortable temperature.
